Pedro Gonçalves is a Portuguese football coach who has made significant contributions to the sport in Portugal and beyond. He was born on September 21, 1958, in Lisbon, Portugal.
Gonçalves began his coaching career with FC Porto in 1979, where he worked as an assistant coach under José Ferreira and then Luís Figo. In 1986, he became the head coach of FC Porto's reserves team and led them to two consecutive promotions to the first team. In 1989, he took over the head coaching position of FC Porto and led them to their first league title since 1977. He also won the Portuguese Cup in 1990 and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1991.
In 1994, Gonçalves moved to Sporting CP, where he has been the head coach ever since. Under his leadership, Sporting CP has become one of the most successful clubs in Portuguese football history.
